Sylvia Plath was an American poet, novelist, and short-story writer who married fellow poet Ted Hughes. Plath who started writing poetry from the age of 8 is credited with advancing the genre of confessional poetry as she grew up. At twelve, her IQ was recorded at around 160. In 1982, she won a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for The Collected Poems. Plath suffered from depression for much of her adult life and in 1963 she committed suicide. Her works prominantly deal with themes of rage, despair, love and vengeance making her an intense poet at a young age.
