Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi, more popularly known as Rumi around the world was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, theologian and Sufi mystic. The general theme of Rumi’s poetry is union with his beloved from whom he has been cut off and his longing and desire to restore his love. Rumi’s poems are rooted in music, poetry and dance as a path for reaching the almighty. According to Rumi, music connects the soul to the divine and this is done so intensely that the soul is both destroyed and resurrected. This mystic poet believed in spiritual evolution of a human being through love which is beautifully portrayed in most of his poems.
