John Keats, an English Romantic poet was one of the main figures of the second generation of Romantic poets along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Though his work having been in publication for only four years before his death, he had become one of the most beloved of all English poets. The sensual imagery in the series of odes written by Keats characterises his poetic genius. He is still idealised as a heroic romantic poet who battled poverty, died young and left behind his most mature work. The poetic self-consciousness and dry ironic wit in his work makes Keats a classical legend.
