Poetry, even when apparently most fantastic, is always a revolt against artifice, a revolt, in a sense, against actuality.
– James Joyce
James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was an eminent Irish poet and author in the early 1900s. He also is considered as one of the most important writers of the modern era. He is best known for adapting Homer’s Ulysses, which parallels the epic work to modern literary styles, and how it corresponds with them. Being an avant-garde writer, he wrote about the stream of consciousness and other contrasting literary styles. A few of his other noted works are Dubliners, A portrait of the artist as a young man, and Exiles. Like all other early modern writes, he has been subject to scrutiny by all other poets and novelists of this era. He has influenced writes like Salman Rushdie and Samuel Beckett.

Be not sad because all men
Prefer a lying clamour before you:
Sweetheart, be at peace again — –
Can they dishonour you?They are sadder than all tears;
Their lives ascend as a continual sigh.
Proudly answer to their tears:
As they deny, deny.High On Poems created the group
