The Sentinal

The first time that I pass the old man in the rock…
I am young, few years off the teat
The road winds through the pass, of green and black
I glide, a passenger on a ferry with wheels
Nike below me, the cool starry night above
Then around a corner, it stares at me from the hills
It watches as I pass, I am frightened – as a child should be
And I cower

The second time I pass the old man in the rock…
I forget it is there, until
It appears to me, he watches
He has been waiting, I am fear
He calls to me, from ages long past
Old fears come to the fore, and he reassures me
This road will be long, but he will still be there
And I draw strength

The last time I pass the old man in the rock…
I look forward to the meeting, as if an old friend
It greets me, I welcome it
Its strength renews me, he brings me contentment
I wave goodbye one last time, and as I pass
I am complete

I liked your poem yes it reminded me of growing older but something steadfast in the background
solid ground so to speak that will always be there a focus for our life to always come back too.
Could be the code we live our life by some things never change and are like a warm cuddle.
Wow your poem sparked me off—great.

I get a feeling the old Man for you…was a black dog for me…. enjoyed reading and thank you for friendship request!
