Eyes Open

Eyes Open prose poem

We awake
Wrapped arms around waist
Feeling her fingertips against my flesh
My heart against her back
Smelling the follicles of her hair
No words
just moments of memories
First conversation
First smile
First film
Wishing we could hold on to moments
For as the heat of the dawning rays move up it brings us closer to the end
An end to a friendship that would have outlasted time
An end to a heart that must stop ticking to rock for someone else
An end to finding true love to drive it away when we really needed it most
My grasp tightens around her waist
Her fingertips dig in my flesh like roots to soil wanting not to leave a foundation
I can hear her pull back of Oh gasping for a moment
But our tune lessens
