(A Versification of the Evoluted Past in the Convoluted Present Tense)
Once upon a billion aeons ago,
When mucks are gene pools of protozoa;
Long before Ape is the forebear of Abraham
And amoeba the forebear of ape-man, I am…
A micro-byte of a smudge;
I ooze in, I ooze out sludge.
Light effloresces on my skin;
I glow into a glob of gelatin.
I severally divide and multiply,
I slit-split into twos; in zillions I ply
The primordial slime: I suck
And suckle on uncultured muck.
Murky years pass, late than soon,
I gorge me into ‘protozoon’.
I grow filaments; I roundly swim
And feed on fellows ‘protozim’.
Generations pass in the slow blink
Of an ill-formed eye; I slither-slink,
Grow gill-lungs in sun-soaked brine,
And breathe air of rain-soaked shine.
My androgynous brothers take roots on land,
My amorphous sisters lay eggs in twigs and sand:
Though Nature is select,
I elect to walk erect –
I stride roughshod on two-footed-falls,
Legs gangly astride two corpulent balls;
Thighs astraddle a cock of insolent stub,
I dangle erect an alpha-male-size club.
I grow a brain coconut size
I eat, sleep and strategize;
I kill with consummate ease,
Rape and mutilate where I please.
I harem and fornicate;
I wage wars and dominate;
The little ‘I am that I am’ of the earth,
I am the least that is the first.
O First Cause and God of Abraham,
Before Father Abraham was, I am
Amoeba in water, ape-man on land:
I devolve as I evolve into degenerate man.
