Your beautiful spirit has found
 it’s way back home.
Your golden smile will always be the sun of so many people’s lives.
Dearest Maya, as a caged bird
,You told your story to touch 
deeply, and profoundly.
You deserved to be the center of sister circles that helped women and girls 
find bravery, a voice, solace and safe havens.
You possessed a great amount 
of intelligence and sophisticatedelegance. Everything you said was
wise and made a lot of sense.
The way you read your rhythmic poetry
 captivated, fascinated, and left fans
 and lovers of the spoken word, elated.
Phenomenal Woman is one of the greatest
poems ever written.
Your spirit is probably strutting with the stars, or prancing around Saturn’s rings.
Soulful sister, I loved the light that 
sparkled in your eyes and the way 
your mouth moved as you poetically 
baptized us.
Dance your dance in the cosmos 
as we find hope in the incredible 
legacy that you leave behind.
We’ll be nourished by the words that flowed from your wonderful
