The Huntress

The Huntress short poem

You were standing alone
In a crowded room
And going round in my head
The same old tune.

Eyes of cold sapphire
Holding me stark,
In the dark despair
Of a panther’s stare.

Futile attempts
To move, to turn
The fire in my mind
So hot that it burns.

Moving through the crowd
With the graceful ease
Of a strong and sturdy redwood,
Swaying in the breeze.

The sultry smile
On your scheming face
Leaves me frozen in time,
Rooted in place.

As the devil’s daughter,
You came for the slaughter
And laughter from a smile
That beguiles.

No strength, no will,
No resistance, just the thrill.
Fulfilling the vision
With a flick of derision

Sweet fragrance so divine
Engulfs the tingling senses
A cloying mist of desire,
No borders, no fences.

With a confident fire
You close for the kill
May I be all you desire
For I have not the will.

The rhyme scheme seems effective in this situation… It’s subtle instead of rigid… The flow and balance needs work though. For example:

“The sultry smile
On your scheming face
Leaves me frozen in time,
Rooted in place.”

Would sound better like this:

“The sultry smile
On your scheming face
Leaves me frozen
Rooted in place.”

It’s less choppy this way, and more fluid.

The Huntress

The Huntress short poem

There’s no reason to care I, am just a ghost No one special Merely trivial The one you call upon at night I make you come alive Though I, am just a ghost Not the keeper Some kind of lover
