Sporting Heart

Sporting Heart short poem

Feet bite down
And all around, the roar.
Expectations are high
Hands reaching for the sky.

And yet my heart is still.

Feet pounding, resounding
Each step a moment in time.
A memory begun
Beneath the starting gun.

And yet my heart is still.

Competition is tough
Will he have enough.
Or will the devil of defeat
Be-still his aching feet.

And yet my heart is still.

The line now in sight
So dreamed of night by night
As the charge of waning warriors
Push limits to their borders

And yet my heart is still

The flash of clicking lens
To signify the end
Winning is all
Another coin to hang on the wall.

And yet my heart is still
A hole too large for sport to fill.

I like how it tells a story. It’s very well written. In the second stanz, “Feet pounding, resounding” really sounds awesome.
