Supernova Star Dust

Supernova Star Dust short poem

You are supernova star dust, remnants of a sun
turned inside out;
born anew.

Elemental matter
from swirling nebulae,
drawn together by gravity
to form a rocky mass,
at exactly the right distance
from another star, itself
formed in precise proportion
to shine for long enough,
with just enough warmth,
for elements to randomly
collide, forming molecules
that spark to life, and self replicate,
and thicken, and grow, and evolve
into living beings.

Beings, that, by an improbable
sequence of happy coincidences,
survived disease, and accident,
and war, and famine, and all forms
of pestilence and predators,
and mankind’s best efforts
to destroy itself.
To survive all that, to live
long enough, to meet
and bear children that would, one day,
be drawn together in a Belfast bar,
and fall in love.
Your love is constructed
from the stuff of stars.

You are supernova star dust.
