My Journey Of A Lifetime

Today was an ordinary day
I was in my bed dreaming the night away, thinking about gold coins with sparkling dots on the side
I could see them in my dreams
I was sinking into my bed getting deeper into my dream
I could feel my rough hand touching my plump face
I could smell my dirty breath
I could hear discussing downstairs
I could taste the invisible air
Before daylight I woke up on my crumpled rotten bed.

It was now a big problem, the worst you could ever think of – no food or water!
I could not survive for long without those needs
I was skinny enough
My body is shrinking
My ribs getting closer to squeezing out of their bony cage
Hearing my tummy rumbling, I felt we had to leave
Tasting my dry mouth, we definitely had to leave now or never!

After a dreadful two hours I was stumbling through the middle of Syria that had become a war zone
There was fire everywhere, every step I took there was fire
When I looked left there were broken buildings, when I looked right there were burning fields
Then I saw water in the distance, it was looking straight at me
My destiny right now was to get on a boat and said to beautiful, legendary Spain.

Then behind me, I heard ka-boom!
It was just another old beaten house falling to its death
There were eyes staring at me, tears filling them and falling like diamonds to the old dusty ground
People were begging for help
Eventually I was on the edge of the glimmering flat sand
There was a wrecked boat but it looked OK to try
I squeezed in a narrow little corner before I scavenged the boat
Later that day a bruised man came aboard
He put a heavy motor on and off we went.

When I was sitting in the corner of the tiny boat, I saw lights shining into my suspicious eyes.
It was the police.

It is a paradise where I live now
It took, what felt like, a million years to get here but
In Spain everything is awesome.
