Replacing The Shovel

She destroyed him
And he loved her for it
He brought the trouble
She brought the shovel
To bury all the tainted pieces
Of his former self

Partners in crime
Doing the red eye boogie
With wolves
In sheep’s clothing
In light of
A neon ampersand
In blurry type
The only one
That could tame him
Shot for shot

They had a moment
At night’s end
She pulled a bait & switch
With a smile on her face
His courage started to bruise
And he knew
She was the one

They tied the knot
Around a negative space
Replacing the shovel
With ball & chain
So he shook his head
Eased down
Onto the ground
And said farewell
To himself
