The Glow Before The Sunset

The Glow Before The Sunset prose poem

Uploaded by Dr.Indu Nautiyal

”Au revoir” , said the Sun with a smile
Sliding down the western horizon
Painted in gold and crimson all over
Richer than ever in its glamour

My gaze followed it till the moment
It was no longer visible on the scene
And then found myself bewildering
As to where it suddenly disappeared!

Was it the end of a glorious journey
Across the endless firmament
Or the continuance of the same grand show
On the other parts of this vast universe?

Where all over the land and waters
A whole living world be getting up
Refreshed from a night’s good sleep
To welcome the new day with cheer

While here we are waiting keenly
For the evening shadows to deepen further
So we could wind up the day’s labour
And slip to rest in the night’s fold.

But neither we, nor our brothers
Living on the other side of the globe
Do ever wish the Sun to take rest
As that would threaten our own existence

But take its appearance for granted
On the eastern sky each morning
Sending life succour to the earth unasked
With light and warmth and vigour aplenty

I have been a teacher for about four decades ,but even more than that , a student and learner all along --literature being my favourite subject with special love for poetry , a trait I seem to have inherited from my father, who was a very good poet ,it was he that instilled in me a deep love for poetry early in childhood . Starting as a science student ,I shifted to literature after graduation and and worked on Emily Dickinson's poetry for Doctoral degree. I don't claim to be a poet ,but do admit my inherent love for poetic utterances as and when I find them and sometimes feel inspired to give vent to my own emotions in words that seem to convey them .Honestly it happens quite effortlessly and also leaves me with an immense satisfaction .If it can be termed poetry ,all the more rewarding. .
