The Jester

The Jester short poem

Retrieving a book
from the calmness of it’s nook

Opening to illustrated pages
to be read by children of all ages

As the pages were turned, one by one
An image soon appeared, as bright as the sun

There before me appeared the Jester!
in full color costume so bright
with bells and jingles, oh what a sight!

Suddenly and from the open window
flew, a black and yellow, northern honey bee
who decided to land on the page, right where
the Jester would be

The excitable Jester
began to move – ever so slightly at first
and then leaped from the pages
in all his gradual stages

A little rotund Jester, all of ten inches in height
in green and orange, my what a slight

This is outrageous
It can’t be true
how did I accrue
this book of magic brew

The Jester gracefully stepped off the page
and began to dance
this was not by chance

He made me laugh
and  danced to my cue

Was it the magic of the bee
that made the Jester come to be?
Or was it always in the pages
of this book for all ages
just waiting for me

As I prepare to close this book
I take another look
and there’s the  Jester
back onto the pages
of this book

I carefully returned  this magic book
back to it’s cozy nook
so others may see
