Onion Vs Ostrich

Onion Vs Ostrich long poem

Onion Vs. Ostrich
Come with me and lets play
with an onion bearing a quill.
You get to be the ostrich
and I get to be the monkey.

Now watch me tickle you
with lines and thoughts I deploy.
Just as I watch you bring joy
not tears with words so untrue.

Poets are onions with layers
meant to be peeled over time
not to bleed rebuke or sarcasm
over issues worth one’s deride.

And though I pitch well
here you are ready to quell
my quill with words
that don’t ring a bell

I am not an ostrich head
deeply buried in pride
but I can be a monkey
whose work is a form of play.

It takes more than words for you
to dishearten my quill with dismay.
Peel my thoughts and construe
my lines to watch them interplay.

He who shall interlay his fingers
between an onion and its skin
stands to shed tears not smiles.
Poet or onion, ostriches beware!

Author’s Notes:
People are like onions with many layers for personalities … you just gotta peel as many layers without wounding them to get to their sweetness without shedding tears. Meanwhile, poetry is a form of passionate expression kindled by an impression unbound by public conviction. You can be an onion as a poet and you as a critique can be an ostrich or someone who works to inspire and instill methods of improvement .
