From A Single Lovebird

From A Single Lovebird long poem

I am a pretty little yellow lovebird
I live in my hut like golden cage
My feathers so beautiful
It’s waterproof and has colourful plumage

It’s my only home
I do not want to fly away
I get what I want here
Food and water love and care
I do not want to explore
What lies in the sky galore

I was born in this cell
The birdseller put another one with me
It chatted all day but didn’t let me talk
It became dominant and I could barely walk

The birdseller sold us away
To a family far away
They loved us and fed us
Everything they could
They cleaned us with shampoo and water
Whenever we needed a soft shower

One day the other bird escaped
And I was so sad
So was my family
They tried to bring it back
But the bird never returned
I didn’t know how to react

I was left alone
It was a turning point
They left the cage open
But I wouldn’t go
I walked a few steps I knew I couldn’t fly
I was weak and also very shy

Slowly I started rising
In my endeavour
To be confident and strong
The family wishes I could fly
In the sky so very high
And live with other birds
And make my home in the trees that is why

I keep looking through my cage
From the big wide open window
Enjoying the rain and warm sunshine
I see clouds,I see birds fly
Animals wander in search of food
How lucky they are
I have begun to wonder

I’m growing strong
The sky is a-calling
One day I will fly high
Among the clouds over the hills
Will build my nest atop a tree
And wander free like other birds do
It is also the right thing too..
