Only If I Could

Only If I Could long poem

What I would tell you, only if I could
I would tell you that I love you in the morning, over our morning coffee
I would tell you that I love you, through a text, to see when we could meet next
I would tell you that I love you at night with our bodies entwine
I would tell you that I love you, as you sleep next to me at night,

I would tell you that you are beautiful in ways only I can see
I would tell you that you are beautiful in ways you don’t see
I would tell you that you are beautiful even with the scars upon your skin,
I would tell you that you are beautiful even with the damaged soul you carry

What I could tell, but they would only hurt you so,
I could tell you lies and play awful games
I could tell you, you are not the one, that I was wrong
I could tell you that I cheated us, and break your heart
I could tell you that I don’t love you

I could tell you that I hate the way you wear your messy hair,
I could tell you that I hate the way you keep me awake by snoring the night away
I could tell you that I hate the way you wear your clothes, all saggy and loose,
I could tell you that I hate the way you won’t share your ice cream with me

What I would tell you each and every day if you were mine
I would tell you that I will never leave your side
I would tell you that this was all meant to be,
I would tell you that I hold you in my heart
I would tell you that I all want is you

I would tell you that when we touch it’s like electricity in my veins,
I would tell you that I like the taste of whiskey on your lips
I would tell you that I dream of you each night
I would tell you that I just …LOVE YOU!!

What I should tell you if you and I were never together
I should tell you that I was happy to know you
I should tell you that I will never forget you
I should tell you that you will always hold a piece of my heart
I should tell you that I will always love you

I should tell you I still see you be beautiful
I should tell you that the stars don’t seem as bright without you
I should tell you that my coffee doesn’t taste as sweet, in the morning light
I should tell you that I still dream of a love like no other.
