The Jester

The Jester short poem

The Jester

Retrieving a book
from the calmness of its nook

Opening to illustrated pages
to be read by children of all ages

There before me was the Jester
in full color and bright
what a sight

From the open window
a honeybee flew in
then onto the pages and onto where
the Jesters would be

The beautiful Jester
began to move ever so slightly at first
and then moved from the pages
in gradual stages

Just all of ten inches in height
what a slight

This is outrageous
It can’t be true
how did I accrue
this book of magic brew

The Jester gracefully stepped off the page
and began to dance
this was not by chance

He made me laugh
and danced to my cue

Was it the magic of the bee
that made the Jester come to be?
Or was it always in the pages
of this book for all ages
just waiting for me

As I prepare to close this book
I take another look
and there’s the Jester
back onto the pages
of this book

I carefully returned this magic book
back to it’s cozy nook
so others may see
the Jester’s glee
