Nurse short poem

You study so hard for a nursing career
Sometimes knowledge doesn’t replace fear
The job of a 12 hour shift Registered nurse,
Some- times feels more akin a curse.
Telling my loved ones goodbye
And leaving home for the night
Holidays missed and events rescheduled
Report obtained and my work began
The man in room 22 fragile and old
Sick and tired but a pleasant soul
Needing warm blankets and hear him out
The lady in 13 has cancer and slowly dying,
Toxins slow the growth and buy her time
She’s falling apart , yet she still has hope
The call lights ring off the hook all night long
Quickly moving from one room to the next
The sick needing care through their storm
Compassion and empathy is what it takes,
You get tired an stressed but never let it show,
For encouragement you provide keeps the hope..
