The Ruined Man

The Ruined Man short poem

You say you are at war
You say you are battle worn
You say you have gone all dark
All weary and filled with scorn

You say she took your life away
You say you are left with nothing at all
You say you are full of despair
While she is seemingly having a ball

You say you are still strong
But ruined on the inside
You are nothing but an empty shell
Lying forgotten in the dark of the night

You see only shades of black
You only want her to come back
Why don’t you understand
Maybe it’s not in her hand

Even if it is unfair and wrong
Can’t you see she has chosen
She has obviously moved on
While you are stuck in this web you have woven

There is beauty in pain
Ruins are beautiful too
They are mysterious, enticing, yet lifeless
It’s true

Let her go
Break these painful chains
Set her free
Learn to love yourself again

You are worthy too
Of all this love in your heart
Love and nurse your soul back to health
Stop shredding yourself apart
