Only Thing You’ll Regret

One day you’ll only regret
The people you never spoke with and met
The places you never went
And things you never did
Then you’ll regret how much the fear controlled your actions
What if, the constant question asked
What if you never followed your passions
What if you never strayed from those tracks
What if you never had that one friendship to last
What if you never fell in love
Or felt like you weren’t good enough
What if you had said yes to those drugs
What if you had become the high school slut
Instead of being the good girl you were
What if you had crashed your Daddy’s truck
And lost your Momma’s trust
And what if you had never lied
About where your siblings were that night
Or if you’d never gotten into those long hour fights
With an ex-lover all those times
Would you still be satisfied with your life
Life is full of ups and downs, twists and turns
Sometimes you crash, but don’t feel the burn
Make mistakes, but that’s just how you learn
This is what life is for
Opening closed doors
After you’ve fallen to the floor
Feeling like you can’t get up anymore
Thinking this is worse than anything you’ve handled before
So when your life is playing out
Will your eyes be watching, big and proud
Or will you hang your head and simply stare at the ground?
