Good Intentions

I wanted to do something special
Something to make you love me again
I knew that it had to be original
So i reached for my paper and pen
I wanted to tell you I love you
Words I’ve told you a million times
This time I want it to sink through
So I need more than dumb clever rhymes
I thought I would tell you about me
Things you could not already know
And then I thought of the loss of my daddy
And I cried cause I miss him so
The joy I was feeling had vanished
And it hit me that he’s really gone
Seems the love that you had has diminished
And soon I’ll be left all alone
Now selfishly I’m writing this for me
Who knows where it will go from here
I’m just so sick of being lonely
With no one who loves me or cares
There’s only one thing that I have hope in
There’s only one thing that makes me smile
But you never make me feel like you love me
I haven’t felt that in quite a while
So I’m wondering if I should just end this
To save you the trouble and pain
But I’m hoping that one day you’ll see fit
To call me in out from the rain
I keep asking myself why you’re with me
I keep giving myself no reply
But it’s clear that you’d rather not be
Or perhaps I’m just losing my mind
My darling it seems that I’ve failed you
But if it helps, I’ve also failed me
Either love me or simply choose not to
But know I’ll love you eternally

I'm a 42 yr old single father. I'm new to writing. Well, I've always written, but only recently decided to share. I find myself embarrassed by it, lacking the confidence I need in my writing, perhaps even myself. My goal is for someone to read one of my poems and perhaps get a glimmer of hope, to maybe inspire someone that otherwise would not have been reached.

The Good Fight short poem
