You hide behind this “couldn’t care less” facade, just to prove to everyone you’re someone you’re not.
You cling to social media for validation, like you can’t see your worth without their attention.
Affection, you call it, when they slide in your dm’s.
Babygirl, your heart may be worth more than gold but no one can see that if you keep giving it away for free.
But we both know it’s not your heart you give so freely.
You distance yourself. But from what?
I know you’re not a coward but you’re running from something.
What burden do you carry that is so heavy, you’re willing to break just to hold it up?
No pain is worth breaking for.
And babygirl please don’t let them harden you.
Don’t give them your kindness just because they’re asking for it.
This world may be cruel, but that doesn’t mean you have to be too.
Hang up those “bad girl” clothes, they don’t fit.
See, your darkness creates the shadows and keeps out the light. You keep everyone who cares on the outside.
And I know I could be mad. All the times I’ve reached out only to have my hand smacked like an ignorant child reaching for the stove.
But I’m not mad, because I might be the only one who notices that you can’t look anyone in the eye.
I think you realize that eyes are the window to the soul, and you have a broken soul you don’t want anyone to see.
When they look at you they see a gorgeous girl with long brown hair and curves for days.
Someone who puts her skin on display because she feels she has nothing more to offer the world.
I look at you and I see a girl who could set fire to the world if she could only find some lighter fluid.
Babygirl you are more than you’re settling for.
You’re worth more than you’re settling for.
I see it, and I can’t wait for the day when you see it too.
