Notions short poem

Uploaded by prema balaji

I thought you would walk behind, but you went ahead.
I felt your place is at home, but you went to rule the world.
I believed knowledge is my domain, but you invaded that terrain.
I was conditioned to believe you are inferior, but you proved to be my equal.
All these myths burst, my ego hurt.
I needed to reassure myself ; I am stronger than you
So I hurt you thinking you will cower in fear.
Take your time to regain sanity.
But you proved me wrong like you have done time and again.
You have the strength of Mother Earth to swallow all hurt.
Tower like a mountain to ward off all storms.
Arise like the wave to wash off all dirt.
You have moved ahead, but I am holed up in a cage.
If only I had looked at you as another human being
My equal and not a lifeless commodity
I wouldn’t be where I am.
Now I have learnt the lesson; not to be swayed by pre-conceived notions
But think and act as my conscience guides.
