An Abundance Of Ugliness

An Abundance Of Ugliness short poem

Uploaded by Nicole Hofstadler

I am not good enough for the boy in the
blue car,
waiting for something miraculous to happen
that isn’t me,

I am not good enough for the 45 year old man
whom with a share my facial features,
who tells me
I am too fat,
that I wear too much makeup,
that I must shave my body hairless,
because that is what society tells us is correct

I am not good enough for the person
in the mirror
my teeth must be whiter
and my body figure thinner,
She does not smile back at me,
She only frowns
She does not see the beauty in her hair,
or in her skin,
or even in the scar on her foot,
She only locks away her insecurities
for no one else to find.
