Salutation prose poem

Uploaded by Dr.Indu Nautiyal

Hail to you o majestic mountain
Bedecked with the crown of snow-capped peaks
You seem to dominate the landscape beneath
Like a mighty monarch seated in the sky .

Blessed with heavenly grace and charm
Surrounded by an aura from invisible but felt
Hiding myriad mysteries in your folds
Aren’t you an eternal source of wonder ?

Calm and composed you sit there unmoved
In scorching sun or tumultuous storms
Like an austere yogi you remain absorbed
In deep meditation , forever unperturbed

You are the one who has witnessed
Countless changes happening on the earth
Right from the earliest days till present
Down the long phases of its existence

Those with daring spirits take pride
In scaling your super challenging peaks
Scientists from the world reach out to you
In search of rare minerals and herbs

Seekers of spiritual wealth have found
Their cherished rewards in your serene portals
Lovers of nature and beauty are drawn
Towards your environs of pristine splendour

Generations of poets and philosophers
Have sung rich hymns of your honour
Painters , lensmen never feel tired
Trying to replicate your sublime grandeur

Though not as rich in words or colour
I place at your feet this humblest of gifts
Accept , if you please this modest offering
And make me feel proud of my little venture .

I have been a teacher for about four decades ,but even more than that , a student and learner all along --literature being my favourite subject with special love for poetry , a trait I seem to have inherited from my father, who was a very good poet ,it was he that instilled in me a deep love for poetry early in childhood . Starting as a science student ,I shifted to literature after graduation and and worked on Emily Dickinson's poetry for Doctoral degree. I don't claim to be a poet ,but do admit my inherent love for poetic utterances as and when I find them and sometimes feel inspired to give vent to my own emotions in words that seem to convey them .Honestly it happens quite effortlessly and also leaves me with an immense satisfaction .If it can be termed poetry ,all the more rewarding. .
