2016 2017 short poem

As the countdown hit zero and everyone cheered in the new year,
All I could do was shead a tear and curse the past year,
The joyous noise that sorounded me made my heart sink,
I was stuck in a gaze as I tried to force a smile, but I couldn’t help but negatively think- what if this year is worse?
What if this year doesn’t break the curse?
What if I am stuck in reverse?
I don’t seem to be going anywhere,
Now as everyone celebrates- straight ahead I stare,
The song they play on New Years at midnight has always made me sad,
It has always struck a cord in my soul that makes me feel bad,
And this one was the worst-I suddenly felt ready to burst,
Happy New Year- I am sorry that I am not filled with cheer…
