Masquerade short poem

Uploaded by Jyoti_Joseph

I looked in the mirror,
exasperated eyes glared back at me.
I couldn’t comprehend that exasperation,
I failed to calm my curiosity.

I bowed my eyes down, and thought for a moment,
soon I recalled the way my day was spent.
I started from the very first step I took,
all the way to sundry masquerades that I shook.

Happy, bitter, smart and shy,
Every identity I did apply.
I wore one now, and another one later,
I kept on changing like a living matter.

I left one at back and changed one upfront,
through out the day, my own self, I didn’t see …
and now when I look at the mirror…
It fails to recognise me…

I comprehended those peeved eyes…
I am not me in this pretending compromise.

Well and as the music plays and everybody Dances to Mozart inside, I stand out here On the terrace all alone, outside. All alone except for the owls, the moon and the stars I might feel left out and down
