A Modern Lover’s Plea

A Modern Lovers Plea short poem

Photo by clala1220

I’ll not promise you stars
Or a fleet of gleaming cars,
But a dwelling you’ll find
Where everyone to you will be kind;

I promise not gold and silver,
But to keep you happy I’ll endeavour,
Clothes you’ll have enough to wear
Which’ll show your taste and care;

I’m one of modest means
Who’s happy with carrot and beans,
Five Star luxuries is beyond me,
Simple home-made fare gladdens me;

Everything I’ve I’ll share with you,
My actions will be of transparent hue,
Freedom of every kind you’ll enjoy,
I’ll never be a kill-joy;

I love you with all my heart,
All my utterances are without art,
On bended knee I seek thee,
Will you, O! Will you accept me?
