I went to see my dad today, across his green garden strolled,
Stone monuments graced my way, standing tall and covered in mould,
Flowers in their vases began to sway, bare trees behind were shaking,
I swallowed back the tears at bay, but inside my heart was breaking.
Double rows in a land of peace, another world beyond,
Separated lives and souls laying with their broken bond,
I reached my cold destination with the rain clouds close behind,
Analysed the situation, of how life is so unkind.
I leaned forward to kiss him, mere soil was all to see,
A wooden cross stood lonely and gifts from family,
I knelt and tidied nature’s mess, placed flowers and plants to grow,
The only light in my darkness ,the only way of saying hello.
