A Trip To The Wonderland

A Trip To The Wonderland prose poem

Uploaded by Dr.Indu Nautiyal

Hey ! happy riders !
All set for a pleasure trip ?
Would you please take me along
Or just share your ambitious plan ?

” Up the hills and down to the vales
Across the streams and rivers on way
Through the lush green meadows vast
Into the dark woodland over there

Excited are we to see those caves
Where Mougli ,the wild boy once had lived
With a family of wolves as their own child
And moved in the jungle with friendly animals

Tigers and bears and mischievous monkeys
And other animals of varied nature
We’ll try to know if they can really be friends
Or how could he spend his childhood there.

We would like to go even farther
As the horizon keeps calling for ever
And we , as well , are keen to know
If a fairyland does exist somewhere .

May be there is a demon too
Who has made the fairies captive
Sure , we shall fight and drive him away
And set the good fairies all free !

And then we will hurry homewards again
To reach there before the sun goes to rest
Oh how exciting it will be to narrate
All this to parents before going to bed !

I have been a teacher for about four decades ,but even more than that , a student and learner all along --literature being my favourite subject with special love for poetry , a trait I seem to have inherited from my father, who was a very good poet ,it was he that instilled in me a deep love for poetry early in childhood . Starting as a science student ,I shifted to literature after graduation and and worked on Emily Dickinson's poetry for Doctoral degree. I don't claim to be a poet ,but do admit my inherent love for poetic utterances as and when I find them and sometimes feel inspired to give vent to my own emotions in words that seem to convey them .Honestly it happens quite effortlessly and also leaves me with an immense satisfaction .If it can be termed poetry ,all the more rewarding. .

Notwithstanding the photography, the poem evoked beautiful visuals. A wonderful fairy tale told in wonderful poetic language.
