Life Cycle

Life Cycle prose poem

Life, the very essence of our being.
It is inevitable that we all must walk this journey.
What we forget is that we are not on this journey alone.
Even the nature surrounding us has its own life cycle.
Our infancy is that of Spring.
We are curious and eager to take our first steps.
And yet, it is hard for us to understand the world around us as we are budding and blooming like wildflowers in the Glen of the Downs.
Then, with stronger roots and stronger wings, we soar into our youth, our Summer.
We are now as strong as the Cliffs of Moher and as free as the swans of Coole.
We are brave enough to begin to determine our own paths.
And yet, with out bravery and our strength comes our pride, which brings the treacherous rainstorms.
Our Summer becomes the most beautiful and trying times of our life cycle.
Then, as we age, we reach out Autumn.
We have seen and lived through our innocent thoughts and our childish dreams.
We are now the proud oak tree, marvelous to revel in our might and our wisdom.
We are the protectors and the providers of the weak to prepare them for the impending Winter.
And yet, we see that we will soon be back among the weak within the next season in the life cycle.
Upon this wait, we slowly drift into the elder years: Winter.
A moment where time moves so slowly that it almost seems frozen like the waters of Lady Island’s Lake.
And yet, we remember that when Spring arrives again, if we are here or not, there is a new generation beginning their life cycle.
As you reflect on this, think of what season you are in, and never forget what you have learned and will learn in the future.
As the ancient texts say that can be heard in the whispers of the wind and the roars of the sea: “Life and time are great storytellers.”
