I used to envisage in my childhood To stay in a place where, There is neither hot nor cold. And, my dream came true When I got a job in Bangalore I stayed there for a half decade I loved its climate. Then, transferred to Lucknow It has tormenting hot summers And freezing cold winters Somehow, I coped up in the winter But it is strenuous To stay in Lucknow in the summer The blows of hot air start here From eight in the morning To eight in the night. Whenever I have to go somewhere Facing tormenting Sun strokes I am used to recounting the burning sensation That I used to feel near the fired up ‘Holika’ The heat is unbearable or intolerable It seems to me that I am encircled or enveloped by a fire And sense flames when The Loo touches me Sweat rolls on my body as if One has come out after taking a shower Fans and coolers fail to cool the room They also throw the hot air. Noon in the Lucknow is Not less than a hellish fire if any exists.
