She woke up, the little girl.
Crying in bed
“I want my daddy”
Trembling she said

Daddy’s gone long
He won’t be back soon
You can sleep with mommy
Inside her room

The girl refused
Still crying for her dad
Same old excuses
For years she’d had

The monster beneath her bed
Kept laughing at her sorrow
“your daddy won’t come back!
Not today not tomorrow!”

She paid him no heed
Though he scared her bad
The monster would’ve run
If only she could tell her dad

As the little girl got bigger
The monster left her home
She thought daddy came and scared him away
when she wasn’t in her room

She waited and hid and gave up sleep
To catch daddy in the act
Days passed then months
Yet he never came back

“Daddy I hate you” said the little girl
I hate you for being away for all these years..”
The angel in the rafters sighed sadly
“my daughter I’ve always been here”
