The Tippler

The Tippler short poem

Drowning in glass and aluminum
Seduced by a sadistic lover
A nickel for your thoughts
And a penny for another

Self worth turns to self pity
As the shimmering facade is drained
Expressions once so full of life
Have become so very pained

No treatment, remedy, or cure exists
To saturate the fire
For happy thoughts are hard to think
When something gets you higher

The cans and bottles pile up
Your dreams halt with a screech
The addiction rises to touch the stars
That you could never reach
