The Divide

The Divide short poem

She stood on the lowest rung of the ladder
Bereft of all good things in life.
Her state of existence was conditioned by the divide
That created a gulf between the haves and have-nots.
The gulf showed no sign of diminishing
But this didn’t stop her spirit from flourishing.
She made up her mind, she had to chart her own course
To reach a meaningful destination.
Hence she hopped onto the boat called education.
Toiled hard, shed sweat and made sacrifices.
The goal of climbing the ladder was accomplished.
But her roots were not uprooted.
Her dreams were practical,
To make life meaningful for herself and others.
To bridge the divide, to create equality
A world where human beings breathe in free air.
And the world is ‘One’.
