The Fighter

The Fighter short poem

A heart become hardened by life’s painful knocks
Can melt in the warmth of a smile
And tender emotions locked tight in a box
Awaken to brave a new trial

A hope rendered fragile, extinguished by pain
Can strengthen at once with success
Rise up with the courage to try one again
Stepping over past failure and mess

The human capacity to overcome
Is one of life’s miracle gifts
To see spirit flare in a heart crushed by grief
Re-inspires, justifies and uplifts

I can't remember when I didn't write poems but as I've got older, I find they spill into my head, often at inconvenient times of the morning! I use to write them on my way to work, hence the title of my blog, but now I've given up to go trekking around in a campervan with my husband. Plenty of time to reflect on the world, though I don't claim to understand it any better....
