Walk With Me

Walk With Me short poem

A union, a vow, a marriage.
It is the legal words that bind,
But in the day to day work,
The love is sometimes hard to find.

We run around in our circles
Checking off our “to do” list
And, unfortunately, the most important things ,
Are the things most commonly missed.

The deeds that show our loved ones,
That they are our pride and joy.
Instead they will feel left behind,
Like an old useless toy.

Why is it not good enough,
To just get your work and chores done?
It is not good enough because
You have not stopped to think of anyone.

You have walked your treaded path
And do it for the good of your home,
But you need to take some time,
To let your mind, towards family roam.

For showing love isn’t usually,
The monotonous routine of a day,
But in the thought and attention,
To them, that you pay.

If you have not stopped to think,
Of one thing to make them smile.
Then on the path of love,
You aren’t walking the extra mile.

How can you help their day,
To be more easy or nice?
Even a simple thing,
Like a drink with some ice.

Help her this fine day,
With the vacuuming or the dishes.
Help him with a healthy snack,
Or with the dreams he wishes.

I think love is found in those thoughts and acts,
That expands past our routine day.
I think love is seeking for a relieved or grateful smile,
Because you are walking with them on their way.

@KS_Kearns, love has been taken for granted, and assumed to be perennially extant in the everyday chores of living. While to walk with someone settles the need for a good deed for the day, walking the extra mile is the gesture of love. A notion presented and presented well, with an obvious nuance for beauty in your poem.
