Today I decided that I would try,
To remember when I was a child,
Sometimes bold, sometimes shy,
And most definitely totally wild.
I thought I’d choose to live today,
As if I was very young,
To see the world in just that way,
So this is what I have done.
I skipped along in the tall green grass,
As I sang my favourite song,
I began to run so very fast,
Laughing as I raced along.
I sat down to play with a buttercup,
I Held it right under my chin,
It would tell me if I liked butter or not,
I’m not sure, couldn’t see my skin.
I spotted a dandelion and thought,
I must blow it gently to see,
He loves me yes, he loves me not,
I made sure he always loved me.
I went to the park and sat on a swing,
I giggled as I ran about,
I did not care about anything,
I span fast on the roundabout.
I had pocked money I’d earned,
I decided to go to the shop,
I wasn’t even slightly concerned,
When I’d happily spent the lot.
I froze for a moment, scared to look,
I looked at this watch of mine,
I’m not sure how much time it took,
But I made it back for teatime.
As I ate my chicken nuggets and chips,
I sipped my juice from my cup,
My childhood I’d had a taste of this,
Why did I ever grow up?
