The Date

The Date short poem

Uploaded by Savio Fernandes

“Before the Sun rose today
I woke up feeling heavy in an unusual way
Aware of the date and its significance
No time to ponder, had to prep for work, don’t wanna be late

As I clocked in at the office
The time and date I took notice
As it stared back, my gaze fixated
I froze and for a moment I stood still

I got to my desk because I had to
And there it was again along with the time glaring from the screen
I wanted to avoid it but I could not
Nothing I do today could make me forget that dreadful day
I struggle but I give in
I write it down, letting it sink in, getting hit

All my feelings, my emotions, my memories
Come rushing along with joy and then with throbbing pain
And I know this day will pass
And so will THE DATE
Its been 17 years MOM
And I still love and miss you the same.”
