As Fleet As A Life

As Fleet As A Life short poem

To end up alone in a world full of pain
Where life has become just a cold dark refrain
To drift along on the cold dark tracks
On maps of a mind that is fading to black

A face; a feeling that once felt so real
That face that used to be full of zeal
And a memory is all, a fading whisp
Reach out to touch its frowning lips

Closing your eyes to a world now so fleet
Time moving faster that you tired aching feet
The ticking tock of the clock in the hall
Whispering time to the pendulums call

A sound; a voice in a distant room
Echoing close but then gone just as soon
Calling a name so familiar and then
Long forgotten and going again

Alone in the crowd, may as well not be here
These strangers are talking but simply can’t hear
Their words coming slurred from distorted lips
Hurting my ears plugged with finger tips

To end up forgotten in a world of shadows
Struggling to breathe in a river so shallow
Washed away by the tides of an age
The current too strong to turn back the page

To reach a blank page and with trembling fingers
Grasp the pen, watch the nib as it lingers
So much to say and a future to live
Why must we fade with so much still to give

A cruel twist in the hand of fate
The garden is fading; the path and the gate.
To end up alone in a world full of pain
Where life has become just a cold dark refrain.

A life without being able to enjoy music and express in words would be, for me, empty and cold.I have been writing since age 16, some 30+ years now but have only recently started publishing my works. Since doing so in Dec 2013, I have published 4 novels and 5 volumes of poetry, (available on Amazon.co.uk).My words are my life. If they touch you in any way, if you are able to take something from them, then my work has achieved its goal and I am a happy man.Welcome to my world. Darren.
