Words

Words short poem

The written word is a powerful thing
From a simple rhyme to a song we can sing
With music and melody, emotions are stirred
They live in your memory from the day they are heard

Words of love in a letter so sweet
A promise or vow from a warm heart to keep
Simple words and yet meaning so much
Caressing inside you, your heart do they touch

Words of thankful appreciation
For helping out in a tense situation
Words to support when life is losing so much
Helping you heal without even a touch

Against words of hate that hurt you deep down
Chilling your soul and causing a frown
Words of deceit and careless lies
Till running like rivers, the tears in your eyes

And then words of defiance, of steely mettle
No problem too large for us all to settle
Words of defeat, unacceptable to all
The merest utterance can cause us to fall.

Then words of comfort on our darkest days
A shoulder to lean on if feeling dismayed
Till the soul is recovered; with loud battle roar
Words of victory as we settle the score.

A life without being able to enjoy music and express in words would be, for me, empty and cold.I have been writing since age 16, some 30+ years now but have only recently started publishing my works. Since doing so in Dec 2013, I have published 4 novels and 5 volumes of poetry, (available on Amazon.co.uk).My words are my life. If they touch you in any way, if you are able to take something from them, then my work has achieved its goal and I am a happy man.Welcome to my world. Darren.

Words had been held to hold magical powers. The Christians may recall the phrase “In the beginning was the word” and the Hindus mentally chant a word which signify a sound for Alpha and Omega in their meditations. And can we forget the spells and curses of the witches and magicians? Your poem @dartherino is a delightful piece about the potency of words, and done in rhymes as well.

Those Unsaid Words

Those Unsaid Words short poem

I learned to hold all my feelings inside until late at night. I covered my mouth with my hands so that no one could hear my tears. I perfected my fake smile. Today, after so many days, painfully enough, but
