Refugee – the Deluge

In hoardes they arrived
not cattle or flock of sheep
sea of humanity deprived
a deluge seemed to sweep

Harried mothers hands in pray
weary eyed children in tow
losing who couldn’t bear sway
reached utopia unsteady and slow

City which soundly slept
awoke to a clamour loud
jostling for space inept
nudging for little ground

The town rubbing its eyes
played part in this episode
brought forth virtue and vice
witnessed history in abode

Cloned angels in human garb
descended to help and rescue
alleviating displaced and forlorn
offering bed and stew

Modern Shylocks also aplenty
extracted their pound of flesh
devoured hapless carrions scanty
no dearth of Antonios in mesh

Shaking feet slow and glum
tried to find some steady ground
tagged and labeled as filthy scum
disease and paucity danced abound

Bloody conch had been blown
war different from one they escaped
On this tread taxing and gorily grown
treacherous domicile had to be traced
