Sleepless

Sleepless long poem

A 5-year-old girl
Throws a chair
Because her teacher
Doesn’t seem to care

About how the girl
Can’t sleep at night
And nap time in Preschool
Was where she might

Two years later
The girl is seven
and she still wakes up
At nine, ten, eleven

The doctors admit
There’s something wrong
She should have been sleeping
At night, all along

She’s sent overnight
To an uncomfortable bed
She still needs her parents
To feel safe to rest her head

They finally see
That since she was a babe
She couldn’t even breathe
When her head was laid

She would wake up every night
With horrors in her mind
And she thought that was normal
So she never knew why

The cots in daycare
were positioned just right
That she could still breathe
Although try as they might

The adults there
Could not make her wake
This coma, they called it
she went into every day

So now we go back
to the seven year old
Who had thrown the chair
Just two years ago

She took a small pill
She saw flashing lights
When she woke her throat hurt
But she slept that night

And every night since
She has slept like a rock
She has completely changed
How much, is a shock

Before the surgery
She would attack with screams and claws
At anyone who tried
To take away her barbie dolls

Now she’s the sweetest girl around
You’ll never hear her yell
You’ll never see her cry
And tell you to go to Hell.

Finally she lives
Without fearing sleep at night
Finally she can be
Happy with her life.

Sleepless short poem

Woken up at two, by a pesky little dream, I have been standing by the window, Waiting for my sleep. The neon lights burn ugly holes In the black velvet of the night, A thirsty lapwing flies around Cursing aloud

Sleepless Night short poem

Sleepless night Endless fight A sound of rain on the rooftop Life is about to start It didn’t turn out like I planned Every chance I didn’t take All the bones I had to break The small and big things
