First World Problems

wind in late summer
hitting like a shoulder
under your chin
its whole muscular body
propelling you
toward no one knows

there’s a frantic mating
windchimes so long dormant
shivering with triplets
all the cats narrow their eyes
slink into hidden places
dream of clumsy mice

all the sins of litterbugs
pinwheeling on display
those chores you left
teasing yourself with
weekend accomplishment
don’t bother your nap

thunder comes
a reminder of strife
populations under siege
bloody teeth and fingernails
while your family
argues over supper
