In Bulgaria

Graffiti foretold the new beginning
Rubble in the streets
A telling story of political decay

A girl crosses the street
Is there a new way on the other side

An outstretched hand
Calling for Democracy

Vestiges of propaganda,
Imprisoned dissidents stand aloof
And Stalin’s presence lives on in Bulgaria

Remnants of the home country
Personal during her youth

A weariness and hopelessness fill the face of a nation
And Stalin’s presence lives on in Bulgaria

Bulgaria prose poem

The grafitti marked the new beginning The rubble in the streets A telling symbol of political decay A girl crosses the street A new way on the other side An outstretched hand calling for democracy I see vestiges of propaganda
