Inspiration short poem

A bell rope secreted within you
not some feeble metaphysics
and not hemp or modern plastic
more something like an umbilical
pink-gray and kinked
you feel it run through your parts
aching in your Achilles like
a misplaced wad of cartilage
it doesn’t dance when you dance
but when you dream in colors
put two chords together
bray in your sleep for the reassembly
of the old iambic pentameter
it jerks and spasms in ecstasy
through calf and knee then through
your back to your belly and neck
the harder you go at it with pigments
notes arabesques it twangs harder
you thrum this living conduit
as it electrifies your brain then you
choke it off with your hands and eyes
stuffing food or booze down your maw
toxins in your lungs the sweet stink
of sex those other longings those fast
dirty highs you try to kill it off
unsure of where you may wind up
when you discover what moves you
not knowing if you ever could or
ever want to come back to this world
