Why

Why short poem

I see a future of war
And evil dissent
Of poverty and famine
And dark discontent

A world descended
Into desolate gloom
All joy and laughter
Chased out of the room

I see helpless children
Lining wasted streets
Tattered, just rags
Standing, weary, bare feet

Scattered, bedraggled
And ill at ease
Like leaves of trash
Blown about by the breeze

I see mothers crying
Tears of despair
Holding lifeless bodies
Beseeching the air

Men, bent and broken
Defeated and dry
Blank staring faces
Just waiting to die

All semblance of humanity
All pride and joy
Battered, discarded
Like yesterday’s toys

A question echoing
From the deepest despair
“Why did I we ever,
Let it get this far?”

There is hope in the despair you portray through your verse because it evokes the question WHY in the mind of the reader too.. Commendable job @dartherino
