Brand new shoes

Brand new shoes short poem

Tied the laces on new shoes
Just can’t walk this same old route
Tried and died for years and years
Everyday the same old fears

Now it’s time to look ahead
Off the road that wears the tread
Beyond the line that disappears
Across the corners where I kneeled

This winding road
That I choose to walk alone
You must believe
I’m just running after me

Gather all my hopes and dreams
Stuff a sackcloth full of things
Take the memories so dear
Pack my pillow and my tears

Through the shanties and chanteuse
Passed the stop signs and the shows
Across the fields that look so green
Through the dirty and the clean

This road is long
Time to write a brand new song
I must be free
To live everything I see

Walk the road with broken thumbs
Warm my hands out from the numb
Off the coat tails of my friends
There’s nothing more that you can lend

Now I say goodbye to you
Friends and family, lovers, crew
To walk the road with these new shoes
Right now any road will do
